One of my all-time favorite bands is Hood. Sadly, they haven't recorded an album since 2005's phenomenal Outside Closer, although their members now make music in other outfits like The Declining Winter, Bracken, Maggie8, and various solo projects.
Their label, Domino Records, has just released a gorgeously packaged 6-cd box set (only 500 copies were made). I wrote a short piece for the accompanying booklet about my adoration for their genius album Cold House, which was sort of a soundtrack for a rather melancholy and monumental time in my life. Below is Hood's video for "They Removed All Trace That Anything Had Ever Happened Here," the leadoff track from Cold House.
During this December and part of January, I was away on cold and windy Cape Cod, but I returned home to discover that Richard Adams from the band had sent me a package with my copy of the Hood box set (numbered 031 out of 500!) inside. Best Christmas present in a long, long time.
