Bracken

Again, apologies: I've been REALLY silent. Chalk this up to a icy February lack-of-interest in nearly everything, a general foggy malaise that doesn't seem remotely shakable.

Soon, I'll be reporting on Michael's February 27th book party in New York, to which I'll be Amtraking with my trusty Digital Rebel in hand.

I will, however, recommend a fantastic CD you should check out: We Know About the Need by Bracken. That's the excellent album cover above. If you've read prior posts on here, you know I'm a huuuuuge fan of the Leeds UK band Hood, and Bracken is one of their many offshoots. (This CD sounds quite a bit like Hood's fantastic Cold House--a record whose title pretty much sums up the major woe of my life these past few weeks.) Oh, and the Bracken CD was released on Anticon Records, so how can you go wrong?

Okay, more soon. Promise. Maybe even an NYC photo essay.

Grizzly

A few nights back I went to the MFA here in Boston to see the excellent Grizzly Bear. I went with a posse of friends (Oliver, John, Brent, Marcelo, Gene, Jeanne, and Ricco). I was sort of floored at how well they translated the sounds and dynamics and complexities of Yellow House to their live show. Some review I read somewhere called them "awe-inspiringly huge and intimate at the same time," and that pretty much summed up this show. Plus, they did a cover of "He Hit Me," which was amazing.

And here's their great new video.

Michael's novel continues to blaze its trail. Here's some evidence: a cool Hartford Courant article by the brilliant Dan Pope; a brief but nice USA Today review; and both a review and an extensive article in recent issues of the Boston Globe.

I haven't been posting much on the blog lately, as I've been crazily immersed in the last throes of my revisions. I think I'm expected to have these finished by the end of March, so the next 6-ish weeks are likely going to be hellish.
