#7 ("The 15th" by Wire) seems completely of the 80's, what with the band's skinny ties and white, button-down shirts, but at the end, when the camera pulls back to show the audience, with all its big hair and colorful, billowy clothing, it looks like 1975. 1980 was a transitional year. We went from Carter to Reagan. The sixties came to an end with the shooting of John Lennon, and our present situation with the middle-east was beginning to be played out with the Teheran hostage crisis. (If I'm not wrong, Cronkite ceded his throne to Rather by 1981.)

Hello Scott,
I see that, besides being a cool writer, you're a fan of new wave and 80s music. Much of the writing I do as a journalist deals with music, and the more I cover today's material, the more I think most of the 80s' musical output was pretty darn brilliant. That or I'm getting more nostalgic as I grow older. Or both. In any case, the new wave videos you posted bring back great memories. One obscure song from that era that I still love is called 'Certain Things Are Likely', by KTP (Kissing the Pink). If you've never heard it, try to find it online and download it. I still conserve a maxi single cassette - remember those? - of it for Pete's sake. Cheers from Miami,
JC
