Amazing Twin Peaks Scenes, vol. 1: Creamed Corn

Donna Hayward (Lara Flynn Boyle), covering her recently-murdered best friend Laura Palmer's "Meals on Wheels" route, arrives at a bizarre house occupied by a bedridden old lady (Mrs. Tremont) and her strange, snappily dressed adolescent grandson (who just happens to look exactly like a miniature David Lynch--and that's because he's his son in real life).

Once Donna is allowed inside, and she sits in the shadowy room, the granny starts coughing noisily. The grandson philosophizes that "Sometimes things can happen just like this" and snaps his fingers.

Mrs. Tremont opens the covered Meals on Wheels plate and, flustered, says: "Do you see creamed corn on that plate?" When Donna looks, yep, there's creamed corn.

Then the old lady says "I requested no creamed corn. Do you see creamed corn on that plate?" When Donna looks again, there's no creamed corn.

Donna shoots a glance across the room; now the corn is puddled, yellow and wet, in the cupped hands of the spooky grandson. (Die-hard fans will recognize the Garmonbozia from Lynch's later Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.)

Mrs. Tremont: "My grandson is studying magic."
(Indeed he is. Wanna know some more thoughts about the meaning of this scene?)

"two to tango", wow thats brilliant!
scott, who was your fave piece of mancake on ILNY?
mr. boston was kind of the underdog, he had a certain charm. but omg, chance all cleaned up in a tux on the last show...day-um!
sixpack was a big lug. that first guy that got booted, the one with the recently deceased dog, lord, was HE on the wrong show.
loved sister patterson's klingon forehead! she should have a show!
new york is so over the top, larger than life...but they knew they had gold when they found her! i can't decide if she's an idiot or a genius.
i've seen parts of charm school...vh1 is getting so trashy, i love it!

hey Amanda... god, I'm so hugely embarrassed that I haven't seen Inland Empire yet. Some Lynch fan I am. But soon, I swear it. And I owe you an email, just as I owe Mr. Karo one, and Prince, you too... but I just had to say right here that I'm so excited that my blog has been used to discuss I LOVE NEW YORK. (Of course, you should all be watching the newest Vh1 spin-off, CHARM SCHOOL, which is funnier than all the others before it, hands down.)

Prince - If you aren't referring to 'I Love New York,' I'm going to feel really foolish. (Scratch that -- there's no redeeming myself. Why pretend?). She chose Tango. BUT! He rejected her on the "reunion special." So now everyone's priming for Season 2. And you know it's only a matter of time before VH1 launches 'It Takes Two to Tango.'
Scott - Have you seen 'Inland Empire' yet? It's as spooky and dreamlike as anything of Lynch's. I wish it was getting a wider theatrical release, because it just won't be the same on DVD.

Scott, I'm posting you fabulous interview this week.
By the way, who did New York choose? Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, and I just have to know.
