Descent, Knife
Saw The Descent last night. Fantastic. I haven't been that scared in a movie theater since The Blair Witch Project. Unrelenting and surprising and really, really scary. I went with my friends David and Craig, and we all commented later how LOUD the theater got--I don't think I'd ever heard people screaming so much, or so loudly.
While I'm on the subject of creepy, I'll once again recommend Silent Shout, the new cd by The Knife, easily one of my favorites of the year so far, and finally available domestically. Oh, and go here to see the great video for the title track, which is about as nightmare-inducing as the Brothers Quay films for His Name is Alive or those amazing Aphex Twin videos (ie this one or this one) from a few years back.

Dr. X sounds cool. I'll have to look for it. The Wife and Kids will be out of town next week, a perfect chance for me to grab my horror film buddy and go see Descent. The Wife hates horror films. She has other redeeming qualities which offset this unfortunate character flaw.

I'm so excited for The Descent! I've forced Cullen to forego seeing it until I return to the U.S. A friend of mine, who lives in Scotland, recommended it over a year ago, and I've been waiting, anxiously, every since. The last (horror) film to which I attached such anticipation was Haute Tension, which I appreciated more for the giallo-esque factor than its scariness ... .

Sounds like you've had some fun at the movie theatre.
I've had fun at the Home Theatre, because my local Hollywood Video is selling most of its VHS tapes for three dollars. I got Fay Wray in DR. X the other night. It's from 1932 and, like MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM, which I saw recently but don't have, it's in Technicolor. Michael Curtiz directed it. He did CASABLANCA. DR. X is entertaining, very Art Deco and reminiscent (or, actually anticipatory of) Looney Tunes send-ups of horror movies. Fay Wray's first vocalization in the movie is a piercing scream...
