Hiatus
Sorry, everyone, for being so quiet. Right now I'm in NYC, visiting friends and my accountant. (I'm typing this from an unnecessarily expensive Starbucks' T-Mobile HotSpot. Why are free internet connections fo hard to find in this city??) But I'll be back in 3-4 days with that belated account of Brazil and also some big news about my future living situation. Until then, you can read a cool interview with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, laugh hard with the new Stephen McCauley novel, help me root for chef Lee Anne Wong on Bravo's new reality show Top Chef, or watch the trailer for The Descent, which finally comes out in the US later this year. The descent is scary as hell! The first film i ever saw on video was dawn of the dead when i was like 6 years old and i have been addicted to horror movies ever since so really not that many films scare me, but i found the descent really shocking!

Ah, The Descent! My Edinburgh-based, erm, "internet friend," Tim (who, incidentally presented a paper at a Dennis Cooper conference in Cork, Ireland last week), recommended this, like, last year and I've been waiting patiently for it ever since. He is aware of my affinity for quality horror films, and assured that this was one of the best he's seen in recent memory. For a while, I was afraid that he had been referring to the (similarly-themed) movie The Cave and it had just been re-titled for its American release. Thankfully, that was not the case (because, by all account, The Cave was fairly atrocious).
