Strand Edition
I'll get to Brazil news soon. Just wanted to make a quick note regarding the new edition DVD of the Mysterious Skin film. Slightly different box cover (see below); a few more DVD extras (although still not all the ones on the UK version). Don't ask why the DVD's no longer on Tartan--the answer's way too complicated and messy. Just buy it from Strand Releasing if you're so inclined.
(PS: if you're interested in the Tartan UK version, by the way, they're currently running a special offer where you can get the MSKIN soundtrack if you purchase the UK dvd. Remember, this is a Region 2 disc, though, so if you're in the States, make sure you can play that on your player.)
and PSS: Five consecutive wondrous songs my iTunes played today:
(1) "24," Red House Painters
(2) "High In Your Face," The House of Love
(3) "First Breath After Coma," Explosions In the Sky
(4) "Shared By a Voice," Choir Invisible (obscure Bunnymen-sounding 80s band I love)
(5) "On the Bus Mall," The Decemberists

I listened to the commentary track on the Tartan DVD a while ago and thought it was fantastic; everyone involved seemed incredibly passionate about the project.
A weird aside: I was perusing an area Best Buy's (surprisingly inclusive) DVD selection, and noticed that Mysterious Skin was shelved in the "Special Interest" section, along with documentaries and, like, National Geographic programs. I wonder if some employee failed to read the description, or ... ?

I just read online that the new ish of a mag called Vman features an interview with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Here's what it said...
>> Of note also are two interviews, one with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who featured brilliantly in the film adaptation last year of Scott Heim's Mysterious Skin. When asked if he was worried about playing a gay character, Gorden-Levitt replied:
"Oh come on! The Rock played gay! No one's worried about that anymore. I'm about to do two studio movies, and none of the directors or studio people were like, 'I don't know...I think the kids think he's gay!' Plus to me, gay is a normal person who likes people of the same sex. The character I played in Mysterious Skin had a very damaged, unhealthy sexuality, whether he was with women or men."
Thought you'd like to know.

Cool. Thanks for the heads up on this. I'll have to pick this up since I haven't bought MS on DVD yet.
