Olympics
I'm obsessed with the Olympics, both summer and winter. So, thanks to the Torino games of the next two weeks, I'll be doubly busy--I'll not only be glued to the TiVo, but also to the computer, as I think I'm going to finish the book sometime during this period. I'm also just starting on the massive DAVID COPPERFIELD, one of the many classic novels I still haven't read. So, when the predicted Cape Cod blizzard hits tomorrow, I'll hopefully be preoccupied.
Have a good week, everyone--leave me a comment or email and let me know what's happening, and I'll return soon, hopefully with We Disappear ready to send to my editor.

I was in a video rental place in Olympia and saw Mysterious Skin. I almost started crying. I didn't know Kellie had published novels, I'm on my way to Amazon to figure it out...Hope you're having fun in Brazil. Cannot wait for your next book.

I can't say I share this enthusiasm Scott. During the opening ceremonies, I was watching the last episodes of Arrested Development along with a lot of other people who weren't. I usually tune in when it's on, but besides the fact it's an event that encourages the world to come together in competition, I don't really see the appeal. As far as televised sports go, I can only stand yankees games.

I think I probably shed more tears during the Olympics that during any other television event. I cry over the tragic stories, I cry when the underdogs win, I cry when one person brings one moment of happiness to some tiny country, I cry imagining the pride & happiness a person must feel when he/she accomplishes something he/she has worked a lifetime for...you get the picture.

funny, zoe's reading "david copperfield" right now! and mark and isaac avidly watched the opening ceremonies of the olympics last night -- do you agree with them that they were rather bizarre??

I love the winter olympics as the Luge, the speed skating and bob sleigh are fabulous. (Although secretly I like to watch the Ice dance :-x Please don't tell anyone)

A little part of me hates the Olympics, for no particularly good reason. Well.. when I was a kid my grandparents would monopolize the TV with them when all I wanted to do was watch cartoons.
.. yeah, not a very good reason.
I'll occasionally watch the gymnasts, but I think that makes me more of a pervert than an enthusiast.

There was a great picture on the front page of the TIMES today showing somebody practicing on the louge. (My grammar and spelling are probably both wrong. Is the word I need "floom?" I don't know.) The thing is, the track of ice the person was sliding on was vertical. The person was on his back but his side was what was facing the ground. The photograph is breathtaking. I believe the first chapter of DAVID COPPERFIELD is about the Winter Olympics. As I recall, it goes "Chapter One -- I Am Bjorn."

Hey, scott. I enjoy reading your entries but have never really been compelled to comment. I just want to say that I'm very glad to hear that you're obsessed with the Olympics. I love the winter olympics more than anyone else that i know. I don't really like reading all the articles and hype before the games start, but i always follow the games closely when they're on. my goal is to watch every televised moment of this year's olympics. i'm a college student struggling with money so i don't have tivo or anything to help me out. hell, i don't even have a tv. i'm barrowing one just for the games. it all comes down to my dedication. it's like my own olympic event. the olympics are so great though. my favorite events are even the most typical; women's figure skating, ice hockey, etc.
