My 25 Most Played

Like anyone else, I love my iPod. The name of mine is SQUID (not just because it's white, but also because that was, for a brief time, my nickname in college).

My favorite feature on it is its meticulous "song counting" feature, and the "25 Most Played List" that constantly changes. Since I usually keep my iPod on "shuffle," it's like a little contest, each song fighting it out to be the all-time most played.

I've got about 7200 songs on my iPod right now. Here are the 25 (well, actually 29, because of ties) that have been played the most--title, artist, and number of times played. (Didn't I say I was obsessed with lists?)

1. "Wonderful Combat," Jay-Jay Johanson, 40
2. "Step Into The Breeze," Spiritualized, 38
3. "Fugitive Motel," Elbow, 37
3. "Bitter Kiss," Faultline, 37
5. "Lazy Day," The Boo Radleys, 36
5. "Jewel Sky," Felt, 36
5. "Obstacle 1," Interpol, 36
5. "We Have A Map Of The Piano," Múm, 36
5. "Go To Sleep," Radiohead, 36
10. "Nothing Feels," Bark Psychosis, 35
10. "Not A Job," Elbow, 35
10. "Quiet & Still," Even Johansen, 35
10. "Museum Mile," Geneva, 35
10. "Viðrar vel til loftárása," Sigur Rós, 35
15. "In Dark Trees," Brian Eno, 34
15. "Everything's Perfect," Magnet, 34
15. "Ratts of the Capital," Mogwai, 34
15. "Let Down," Radiohead, 34
15. "Planet Telex," Radiohead, 34
20. "21 York Street," And Also The Trees, 33
20. "For You," Big Star, 33
20. "Medusa," Clan of Xymox, 33
20. "Orange Appled," Cocteau Twins, 33
20. "Drug," The Czars, 33
20. "Three Elements [Watamu Remix]," Malory, 33
20. "Leave Me Alone," New Order, 33
20. "Sennen," Ride, 33
20. "Tegan," Sing-Sing, 33
20. "The Hurting," Tears For Fears, 33

PS-- I'd love to hear your "Most Played" iPod lists.

How can you find out what your top played songs are? I have the non-color screen but with the clickwheel. 20g. Can I find out from the ipod? Also, how can I tell from iTunes?

I really want to know what my top played are.

OK. So this is rather ridiculous because I typically listen to whole albums on my iPod instead of using the Shuffle feature. So, many of the songs are from the same artist. You'll see. Here's my list.

1. Mysteries of Love - Antony and the Johnsons - 34
2. Soft Black Stars - Antony and the Johnsons - 34
3. For Today I Am a Boy - Antony and the Johnsons - 33
4. My Lady Story - Antony and the Johnsons - 31
5. Man Is the Baby - Antony and the Johnsons - 31
6. Hope There's Someone - Antony and the Johnsons - 28
7. I Fell in Love With a Dead Boy - Antony and the Johnsons - 26
8. What Can I Do? - Antony and the Johnsons - 26
9. The Lake - Antony and the Johnsons - 25
10. Just One Star - Antony and the Johnsons - 25
11. The Horror Has Gone - Antony and the Johnsons - 25
12. Frankenstein - Antony and the Johsnons - 23
OK, another five songs from Antony and the Johnsons, which makes up the rest of the I am a Bird Now CD.
13. The Dead Only Quickly - The Gothic Archies - 14
14. The Sporting Life - The Decembrists - 12
15. Neighborhood 1 (Tunnels) - Arcade Fire - 9
16. two more songs from Arcade Fire's Funeral - 9
17. three more songs from The Decembrists' Picaresque CD - 9
18. Illinois - Sufjin Stevens - the whole CD -9 (every song)
19. three songs from Ben Folds - Songs for Silverman - 8
20. Worlds Apart - And you will know us by the trail of the dead. . . . - 8
21. almost all of Bloc Party's CD Silent Alarm - 8
22. some songs from Tegan and Sara's CD So Jealous - 8
23. Judy Is a Punk - The Ramones - 8
24. more Arcade Fire, Decembrists, and Ben Folds - 7
25. Laverne and Shirly - TV Theme Song - 7
26. It's Useless to Struggle - Gothic Archies - 7

OK. That's it. I feel like I'm going to go mad from all of this typing. I don't even mind typing when I'm writing, but for some reason, typing this list is a bit unnerving.

I can't believe how often I've listened to Antony and the Johnsons I am a Bird Now. Insane. Well, I guess I do really love that CD.

take care all; love the lists Scott

I don't have an ipod. Technology scares me. But here's a list of songs that I've been really into lately.

1. "Bog People" by Xiu Xiu

2. "E-Pro" by Beck

3. "Hope There's Someone" Antony & The Johnsons

4. "Sex With Sun-Ra" by Coil

5. "Run into Flowers" by M83

6. "Stigmata Martyr" by Bauhaus

Eh... yeah, that's really it. I've only been listening to like the six albums that those songs are from.

So why was 'Squid' your nickname in college?

Sigur Ros' "Takk..." is out today. Rejoice with a little happy skip.
