Thanks for all the nice comments. I'll address the questions individually very soon!
In the meantime...
I'm still at a loss for words about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. CNN, as always, has been really impressive in their coverage, especially Anderson Cooper and Christiane Amanpour, who go way beyond their duties as reporters.
Rather than continue, I'll just ask you to please watch this MS-NBC editorial by Keith Olbermann, which sums up my feelings about our government's response: Olbermann

Dear Mr. Heim,
I'm chagrined to admit I hadn't heard your name until this week. Mysterious Skin opened here this week and I remembered highly favorable comments from my best friend who saw it with his partner at the Toronto film festival.
I saw it this afternoon. I was blown away by itand will read the book literally as soon as I can get my hands on it. Coming home from the film I immediately searched the web for things about the film/actors/etc. and found your blog.
While I found it both interesting and entertaining, I'll save the kiss-up for another time. For now, I just want to thank you for not changing your mind and removing the entries about the death of your mother, and tell you that they had an impact for me that has all but driven the impact of the film from my mind. I'm getting all too close to that point with my own mother; she's had two bouts with cancer fairly recently, and has a myriad of other extremely serious and debilitating health problems. She's 89 and we both know that it's just a matter of time until one of those problems catches up with her. Despite increasing bouts of increasingly debilitating pain, she remains cheerful, surprisingly active all things considered, and mentally alert, reading a book at least every two days. I've been in ever-increasing denial about what lies ahead, if not imminently then in the not-distant future, and reading through that entry of yours made me believe that I can get through what's ahead however it occurs and whatever form it takes. Thank you very much for that.
