C-A-P-E

A quick one, this: Michael and I are sequestered on Cape Cod, where for the past three days I've been writing, writing.

Sunday, prior to the Cape, we headed up to Portland (Maine, not Oregon) to visit Michael's mom--Happy Birthday, Janet Lowenthal--and I got to spend some time with my great friend from my days at Kansas University, Liz Woodbury. Liz, her husband Mark, and their kids Zoe and Isaac run a bookstore / coffeehouse in Portland: Casco Bay Books. They're also reconfiguring to add Milo, a clothing store with a lot of cool independent clothing designers. If any of you are in Portland soon, I highly recommend stopping by. Some of the friendliest, coolest, smartest people I've ever known.

(In addition: three friendly, cool, and smart new books: The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas by FOUND Magazine's main man Davy Rothbart, The Wild Creatures by the late great Sam D'Allesandro (edited by one of my favorite writers Kevin Killian), and God Jr. by Dennis Cooper.

Movies. If you aren't easily offended, go see the film directed by my pal Paul Provenza, The Aristocrats. Totally, massively hilarious. I especially loved the scenes with Sarah Silverman and Bob Saget.

The Zephyrs have a new CD. Yay.

And only two more weeks until SIGUR ROS.

Loved The Aristocrats. Was crying from laughing so hard through the majority of the film. I was persuaded to see it since initially it did not sound too enticing, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. It is the most vulgar off-the-cuff stand-up comedy all packed in one hysterical movie. Sarah Silverman is a piss. She has her own film coming out as well; I saw a preview before The Aristocrats actually. Her film looks like a good time.

I'm planning to buy the D'Allesandro book; it sounds like something I'd dig. God Jr. of course was incredible. Thanks for the tips.

I too am dying to get my hands on the new Sigur Ros. I should have bought a ticket to go see them live, but I was feeling like a tight wad when considering whether or not to spend the money. I made the wrong decision. Thursday night I'm going to a show at NYC Opera though, where Rufus Wainwright will be performing. I don't know what to expect since I believe all performers are singing songs from the operas being performed this season. Strange.

Love the blog.

Damn. I don't get to see Sigur Ros until Oct. 1st! I have a whole month left to go. They are so amazing live.
