Ian, Opening Weekend, & hitrecord.org
Howdy, SURVIVOR: PALAU fans... I hope you don't forget that the season finale and reunion show is TONIGHT (Sunday, May 15th) instead of on Thursday! All I can say is, Go, IAN, Go!! (He's single, he's a dolphin trainer, he does dance marathons, and he's extraterrestrially skinny. Sigh. I almost lost it when he cried this past week.)
My predictions for how it'll go down, in order from 1st to 4th:

Well, May 6th was our opening day in New York, and everything has been terrific, evolving in a miraculous way. We're all overjoyed and overwhelmed at the reviews and the turnout for the film so far. I'll post more about this later, but for now, you can read a few capsule reviews and samples at the Rotten Tomatoes site here, and you can get an overview of how well the film did in its opening weekend here.
Gregg Araki and I are going to be on NPR, on FRESH AIR with the legendary Terry Gross!!! This is a dream come true for me. More word soon on when the show will (fresh) air.
In sort-of-related news, the star of Mysterious Skin, and close pal of mine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has recently launched his site, www.hitrecord.org. (That's re-CORD, not REC-ord.) The site will be a showcase for Joe's brilliant short films. Right now it's still in its early production stages, but you can see SUGARTOWN TRADERS in its entirety. SUGARTOWN is the shapeshifting / crossdressing / kleptomania film that Joe, I, my sister Tamyra Heim, and our pal Kristina Mitchell made in Lawrence, Kansas a couple of summers ago. In addition, Joe has uploaded a short chronicle of our May 6th opening day experience, and this is on his site, as well.
Here's a glimpse of the small-sized wheatpasted movie posters, as put up throughout the NYC streets, in a photo taken by my pal Keith Crowe.
I hope everyone reading this gets a chance to see the film! More release dates and cities will eventually be posted at www.mysteriousskinthemovie.com.
