superbelated!

Part One:

Superbelated weblog entry... good grief, where do I start?

Tons, tons, tons has been happening these past couple of weeks. I've been traveling around both coasts, and smackdab in the middle of the US as well. LA was terrific--my hosts Eryk Casemiro and Bryce Lowery were amazing, and even held a nice party in my honor at their house, where Eryk made a lemon meringue cake with fresh lemons from his backyard tree that was "simply heavenly" (inside joke; to be said in a really gay voice). I got to see LA friends I haven't seen in a while--writers like Bernard Cooper and Jon Barrett, plus friends from Eryk's TV writer/producer worlds like John Hardman and Kate Boutillier. Oh, I love this boldfacing feature.

San Francisco was amazing, too. Prince Gomolvilas and I felt like, well, princes at the closing night of the Mysterious Skin play. (For further, and probably better-remembered, stories from those nights, I'll refer you to Prince's wondrous weblog at www.princegomolvilas.com.) Although it was gay pride weekend in SF, we opted to head back to LA in the rental car that Sunday instead of lurk around the cruisy streets during the parade. As I get older, I seem to be taking a "seen one, seen 'em all" attitude toward all of that, anyway. But Prince and I had a terrific time on the road. Except for the rather horrendous pickup wreck we saw on the highway in the valley, all else was airconditioned and lovely and soundtracked by Chapterhouse and Mogwai (my CDs) and Erasure and the soundtrack to Rent (Prince's--good lord, I guess it WAS gay pride).

I can't express enough, again and again, how stellar the stage production was. Seeing the final performance was beautiful, heartbreaking, uplifting, etc etc etc. Afterwards, we all went to a cigar bar (!!) co-owned by Megan Towle's boyfriend, and I got to ride with Joseph Parks in his bitchin' truck. Prince was jealous. It took forEVER to find parking amongst the drunken weekenders, but when we got there, we had a grand time. I thought my stories of white-trash family members were good, but Rebecca Fisher and her pals from home had some childhood stories that matched 'em. It was during the following round of drinks, and cyclonic cigarsmoke clouds, that Prince and I decided we would co-write a screenplay in which Joseph will star as a heroin addict. More on this later.

I still swear that Prince's stories of nipples and bologna and Taylor Valentine are all lies.

Okay, this is the end of Part One. Part Two will detail my trip to Kansas with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who will be playing Neil in Gregg Araki's film of Mysterious Skin. I'll try and update a few things about the film's progress. Also, as of this weekend, I've officially moved into a new house (well, an old house, but it's my new address), in Roslindale, just outside of Boston... so I'll talk about that a little.

OH, and soon I'll continue with my pretentious "song of the day." Unfortunately, my stereo receiver and one of my speakers seem to have broken during these past months of nomadic moving around, so I can't currently listen to music except for my trusty red portable CD player.

WAYYYYYY past bedtime....
